1961FallFirst seen on 28 Oct. near Virginia, St. Louis County, by Avifaunal Club.
1961WinterOn December 9, R. Huber and R. Oehlenschlager collected a specimen 5 miles west of Kelliher, Beltrami County and saw another one two miles north of there. On January 6, members of Avifaunal Club saw two with a flock of Common Redpolls on Minnesota Point, Duluth.
1962WinterJan. 1, 5 mi. SE Waskish, Beltrami Co., 1 seen with 20 common Redpolls, Avifaunal Club; Feb. 16, 3 seen at Grand Marais, Cook Co. and 1 seen at Knife River, Lake Co. by Janet Green, Gloria Peleaux and Avifaunal Club; Mar. 2, Waskish, 4 out of 13 Redpolls in one flock were Hoarys, D. Dorn and R. Huber; Mar. 9, French River, St. Louis Co., 4 out of about 60 were Hoarys, Avifaunal Club; Redpolls were generally restricted to northern parts of state this winter.

1968WinterA very good year present in groups, 1-4, in redpoll flocks, 15-40, in the northeast: St. Louis (Duluth), Lake, Cook Counties in Feb.-first 1-27 (Duluth) MMC; last 2-27 Cook (Tofte) JP; more abundant in the northwest throughout the winter: in Wadena Co., RO collected 36 from 11-8 through 3-23, with peak numbers 2-24, 10, and 3-9, 12, and in Roseau Co., PEB reported 5-10 sporadically. A few reports from the south: 11-23 Mille Lacs (Onamia) specimen, Bell Museum; 1-14 (Minneapolis) RG; 2-2 Hennepin (Champlin) 2 MHM.

1973Winter No less than 24 reports from 17 counties; 11 Christmas Counts recorded them (peaks of 7 on the Moorhead count and 6 on the St. Paul Northeast count); seen south to Washington, Ramsey, Hennepin, Olmsted, Lyon and Lac qui Parle; birders should not be afraid to identify this species which is regular in small numbers with Common Redpolls in the northern half of the state, but at the same time caution is in order since redpolls can vary quite a bit in whiteness and misidentifications often result.

1981Winter A major invasion year. Forty-one reports from 11 north and 11 south counties throughout. Most reports of one or two individuals, but at least 10–15 in Kittson 2/16 SSt, and Koochiching 2/8 KB. CBC reports from Baudette, Bemidji, Crookston, Crosby, Detroit Lakes, Grand Marais, Hibbing, Roseau, Sax Zim, and Warren (8) for a total of 24 individuals. Only south reports in Washington and Anoka in January fide RJ. As usual, very few of these were well documented.

2008Winter88 A major invasion by this species, the largest since Winter 1999–2000. Reported from the far Northwest and Northeast regions and spearheading through the state deep into the South-central region, 1/26–31 Blue Earth †RMD, ChH, JCC. Absent from the West-central, Southwest, and Southeast regions. Numerous reports throughout the season in the northern regions and from Sax-Zim Bog, as expected. The high count there of six documented individuals spanned the reporting period, and were observed by numerous birders. Accidental in the South, there was a new county record 1/31 Brown †BTS; and another notable record 1/7 Meeker †DMF. Most observations south occurred from late January through February and beyond. All other south observations with good details include: 2/2 Anoka ph. †CKB and 2/4 Anoka (2) ph. †DPG at different locations, 2/16 Hennepin ph. †ABL, 2/19–23 and 2/26–28 (same bird) Dakota †ADS, ph. †JPM, m.ob., 2/21 Dakota (different location) ph. †MAO, 2/24 Kandiyohi †JoS, and 2/27 Stearns †MJB, where last documented in 1969! LSc, 1/5–2/17 Kittson (Lancaster feeder, multiple birds with a maximum of 8 on 1/4) ph. TrB, 2/5 St. Louis ChH, 2/16 Cook (Lutsen) ph. DBM, 2/26–27 St. Louis (up to 3, Sax-Zim Bog) †PEB, †WLe, ph. MLH. Observers are encouraged to include documentation of all reports of this species.
